Three pieces in the The Bee’s Feb. 11 Opinions page grabbed my attention. The first came from “Our View,” NBC has role in fall of anchor.” There is a word missing in that piece: he lied. Why was that word missing? The second came from the Letters to the Editor, “What will Pitts say about Williams?” Well that answer came from Pitts column on the same page. At the very end of Pitts column, he said “If indeed, he lied, then his sins are not equal to Fox’s.” You mean there still is doubt that Williams lied? In the Feb. 12 article on Page A5, “NBC officials debated whether to fire Williams” it states in part, “90 percent of the people knew it was not misremembering, it was making it up.” Misremembering sounds like a made-up word wordsmiths use to lead people from the truth. It means lying.
The Bee favors Democrats over the Republicans. I can generally find favorable articles for Democrats on Page A1, but I have to go to Page 3 to find one for Republicans. Why is that? I know a lot of people who have left The Bee and I suspect that is one of the reasons. Personally my wife likes the puzzle page and I like the Letters to the Editor and the local news. Remember freedom of the press is in the First Amendment on purpose. Our Founding Fathers thought a free press will ensure factual, fair and impartial reporting of the news.
