Transportation in the land of American Graffiti needs more local control. That means voting in favor of the 1/2 cent sales tax for transportation to repair our roadways and match funding from state and federal sources.
The state system to pay for ever increasing roadway costs fails to increase revenues as vehicles go farther on less fuel. More local control means supporting ourselves by taxing ourselves and directing those taxes through our representatives. This tax will effectively improve repairs to our existing roads, the public's number one interest. It is our responsibility to ensure that our elected leaders use new funds to pay for new construction to complement our ag and urban values.
Just as new development helped to pay for the trans-city Pelandale Expressway, so too can funds from new development and self-taxing be directed to improve our entire transportation system. Choose to support improvements for our local transportation. Support of this tax supports you and your daily movements. Good land use practices need good transportation support practices. I am voting Yes on L!
