In response to "County spay-neuter clinic a necessary," (Oct. 7, Letters): I agree with the Stanislaus County Animal Services that we do need a spay-neuter clinic that will be more affordable for people to neuter their animals. People with low incomes have plenty of other expenses they need to deal with and getting their animals neutered is not a necessity to them.
I think that it should also be open to everyone with cats or dogs because in this economy, everyone is struggling with money and needs a little break. Dogs and cats are definitely overpopulated in Modesto; even in shopping centers near neighborhoods I always see stray cats and kittens running around. If we had a spay- neuter clinic that was more affordable, then more people would be able to get their animals neutered.

Editor's note: This week, the Board of Supervisors approved including the spay-neuter clinic in the new animal shelter. It will be limited to those with low incomes.
