Area candidate forums get under way

Mail ballots will start going out in less than a month, so it’s not too soon for voters to consider their choices in the Nov.5 election.

Mail ballots will start going out in less than a month, so it’s not too soon for voters to consider their choices in the Nov.5 election.

On this page, we persistently urge citizens to vote and to learn about candidates and issues. One way to do that is to attend candidate forums. Several are coming up:

• Tonight from 6:30 to 8, the King Kennedy Center board of directors will host a forum for the candidates for Modesto City Council District2. Three men are vying to replace Dave Geer, who is not seeking re-election. All three candidates, Tony Madrigal, Jon Rodriguez and Juan Telles, have indicated they will participate, according to Jeremiah Williams, president of the King-Kennedy board. District2 includes downtown and southwest Modesto. The center is at 601 S. Martin Luther King Blvd.

The League of Women Voters of Stanislaus County has scheduled three forums:

• Sept.30, 6:15 to 7:30p.m. – Candidates for Modesto council Districts2, 4 and 5 in the council chamber, basement, Tenth Street Place.
• Oct.10, 6 to 7:30p.m. – Candidates for Modesto City Schools Board of Education, at the King-Kennedy Center, 601 S. Martin Luther King Blvd.
• Oct.17, 6 to 7:30p.m. – Candidates for Modesto Irrigation District, Modesto Junior College West Campus, Glacier Hall Room 101.
