Voter registration has edged up a bit in Stanislaus County this spring as campaigns for June elections have geared up. The latest count, on April 7, shows 208,817 registered voters, which is 322 more than the tally at the end of 2013.

Unlike most other California counties, Stanislaus has more voters registered as Republicans than as Democrats – and the gap has widened since last year.

Republicans picked up 833 members this year, while Democrats lost 697 members. Stanislaus voters are 40.8 percent Republican and 40.5 percent Democrat.

During the 2012 presidential election, by contrast, Democrats held a 1 percent edge over Republicans in Stanislaus.

There’s still time to register to vote in the June 3 election, but forms must be turned in by May 19.
