In the too-close-to-call City Council race in Turlock, Councilman Steven Nascimento extended his lead to 16 votes as the Nov. 8 election count was updated Tuesday evening.
Nascimento and Amy Bublak, who were previously separated by four votes, are contending for the council seat in District 4. The district boundaries were created as Turlock moved to council district elections this year. The latest count is 2,627 for Nascimento, 2,611 for Bublak and 279 for Donald Babadalir.
Stanislaus County Registrar of Voters Lee Lundrigan said 6,366 ballots countywide were included in the update. Thousands of provisional ballots still need to be examined and tabulated before results of the election are final.
Jon Rodriguez now has a 400-vote lead over incumbent Tom Hallinan for the Area 7 seat on the Yosemite Community College District board.
Hallinan, a YCCD trustee since 1996, said before Tuesday’s update that he didn’t believe the outcome of the race would change as remaining ballots are tallied. The trustee area includes central and southwest Modesto, Ceres and Keyes.
The Nov. 8 presidential election set a record for the number of ballots cast in the county. The 168,653 ballots counted, as of Tuesday, surpasses the previous high of 162,941 in the November 2008 election.
Historically, presidential campaigns bring out more voters in Stanislaus County. With the latest update, Hillary Clinton carried the county with 46.5 percent to 45.3 percent for President-elect Donald Trump.
