The Standing With You event at intersections throughout Modesto isn’t the only opportunity Saturday for Stanislaus County residents to learn more about and show support for public safety personnel.
The Modesto Fire Department will have an open house at each of its 11 stations Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. And in Turlock, the Public Safety Open House hosted by the police and fire departments will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
What can visitors to Modesto fire stations expect? “They’ll get a tour of the station and whichever apparatus is at whichever station,” said department spokeswoman Jessica Smart. “They can ask questions, and the crews will be on hand to provide life and fire safety tips. There will be helmets, pencils and bilingual activity books as we celebrate 140 years of services.”
The MFD stations are at 610 11th St., 420 Chicago Ave., 635 El Vista Ave., 1505 Blue Gum Ave., 200 W. Briggsmore Ave., 2700 Standiford Ave., 1800 Mable Ave., 737 Airport Way, 4025 Fara Biundo Drive, 148 Imperial Ave. and 4225 Carver Road.
The ninth annual Turlock open house is at 244 N. Broadway and will include presentations, exhibits, facility tours, and free refreshments and grilled hot dogs.
Demonstrations include the Turlock Police Department SWAT team running a scenario and the Fire Department simulating a vehicle extraction, said police Lt. Ron Reid. The public can meet officers and firefighters and see some of the departments’ new vehicles.
