A Turlock man died from injuries suffered in a collision on the east side of town. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s office on Thursday identified the man as Luiz Azevedo, 82.
According to Turlock Police spokeswoman Mayra Lewis, Azevedo was driving a Chevrolet Lumina east on Castleview Drive at 6:45 p.m. when he started to cross Quincy Avenue and drove into the path of a Chrysler Pacifica driven by a 16-year-old girl. The intersection is controlled by stop signs on Castleview; traffic on Quincy does not stop.
The Pacifica broadsided the Lumina. Azevedo suffered a head injury and died later that evening at a hospital. His 72-year-old wife, who was riding in the car, suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Pacifica was not hurt, Lewis said. She did not release the names of the other people involved in the accident.
