Police arrest man found hiding in attic

Police in Turlock arrested a 26-year-old man after he led officers on a chase and hid out in a stranger’s attic.

According to police, officers responded to a call regarding a suspicious person at 11:48 a.m. Sunday in the 500 block of Vermont Avenue. Jose Hernandez Cortez was seen jumping fences in the area.

Officers set up a search. Cortez ran into a house and tried to hide in an attic. The residents did not know the suspect, police said.

Officers arrested Cortez on charges of possession of methamphetamine, trespassing, resisting arrest and a domestic battery warrant out of Ceres.
