A fire early Friday at an apartment complex in Oakdale is being investigated as arson.
Just before 4 a.m., the first firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at the apartments at 160 Hallman Lane. The entire complex, about 14 units according to the Oakdale Police Department, was evacuated.
Four units were damaged, displacing their residents, said Oakdale City Fire Department Battalion Chief Rick Bussell. The residents of the other units were allowed to return to their homes once fire crews had finished their work, which took about three hours.
The fire was determined to be set intentionally, Oakdale police said. Anyone with information regarding the case should contact police Sgt. Brian Shimmel, (209) 847-2231, or Oakdale Fire arson investigator Ed Sears, (209) 847-5904.
Six fire engine crews, two battalion chiefs and one fire investigator – a total of 17 personnel – battled the fire. Oakdale City, Oakdale Rural and Stanislaus Consolidated firefighters were on scene.
Damage, structural and content, has been estimated at $65,000 Bussell said.
