Plans to create new housing and commercial developments on the western and eastern edges of Oakdale will be discussed at tonight’s Planning Commission meeting.
Public hearings will be held on the long-planned Crane Crossing and Sierra Pointe projects. Both proposals include a mix of new houses and retail shops off F Street, Oakdale’s main drag.
Environmental impact reports, specific plans, water supply assessments, public facility financing plans and fiscal impact analysis reports have been completed for the projects.
After community members offer their opinions, the commission will vote on whether to recommend the projects to the City Council.

Here’s what is planned:
Crane Crossing includes 262 acres off West F Street/Highway 108 about two miles west of downtown. The project’s northern portion would include hundreds of new homes on 171 acres, north of Pontiac Street and east of Crane Road. On the remaining southern acreage near Crane Road and West F Street, there would be homes and retail shops.
Sierra Pointe includes 297 acres along East F Street/Highway 120 about 1.5 miles east of downtown. It would include a mix of new homes and commercial and office buildings.

Today’s Planning Commission meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in Oakdale’s council chambers, 277 N. Second Ave.
