Former all-star Turlock High pitcher Tyler Murphy is recovering from a serious boating accident earlier this month which has left his baseball prospects up in the air.

Murphy graduated from Turlock High in May and had signed to play for St. Mary’s College of Moraga as a third baseman/pitcher this fall. But on August 8 he was run over by his friends’ boat while spending the day at Lake Tulloch.

He suffered injuries to his right leg and hand and had to be airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, where he is still recovering.

Murphy made the Stanislaus County All-Star Team as a junior and senior. He was scheduled to begin at St. Mary’s this week. Instead family and friends have been holding a series of fundraisers to help pay for his medical expenses.

A fundraiser dinner is planned for 6 p.m. Sept. 20 at 3540 Amethyst Way in Turlock. Tickets will be $50. Call (209) 678-0290 or (209) 404-5638. Information on Murphy’s recovery is being shared by his supporters on the Facebook page Team Murphy.
