Four candidates will be interviewed and one possibly selected to fill the vacant Turlock Unified School Board of Trustees spot Tuesday night.

The trustees are in the process of naming a replacement for Grady Welch, who abruptly left his position in early July. Welch, who was elected in 2011, had two years left on his term. Board members opted to appoint his replacement instead of hold a more costly special election.

Up for his spot are Turlock Arts Commission member and retired teacher Llewellyn Boyle, Turlock Education Foundation President Barney Gordon, former Turlock Teachers Association President and retired teacher Marsha Memmott and Turlock resident and parent Deborah J. Martin.

The four candidates will be interviewed during the TUSD board meeting during open session. Afterward members will vote on selecting one of them to fill the empty spot. The provisional trustee’s appointment would run until Nov. 2015.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Turlock Unified School District Professional Development Center, 1100 Cahill Ave.
