Modesto Junior College will hold its Celebration of the Humanities in April, featuring ceremonies honoring the 2014 winners in the fine arts competition.
The campuswide student competition, in its 37th year, consists of 20 contests in art, theater, photography, dance, storytelling, music and writing. These celebrations are planned:
• April 9: Writing and humanities awards ceremony, 7 p.m. in the little theater of the Performing and Media Arts Center, east campus, no cost

• April 11: Art Exhibit Opening, 1 p.m. in the east campus art gallery, no cost; new music concert, 7:30 p.m. at the east campus auditorium, no cost
• April 17: Choreographer’s Showcase and awards, 7 p.m. at the Cabaret West Dance Theatre, El Capitan building, west campus, tickets $8 at door
• April 29: Storytelling evening, 5:30 p.m. in the east campus little theater, no cost
The art show that opens April 11 will continue through April 18 and will showcase painting, photography, sculpture and other works by MJC students. The art gallery’s regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. Admission is free.
