High schools hold information nights on career programs

Modesto City Schools will offer information nights for students considering special high school programs. The deadline to apply to switch schools to enroll in a special program is Feb. 28.
The International Baccalaureate program is a rigorous, internationally accredited college preparatory program. Information nights will be Jan. 22, Jan. 30, Feb. 4 and Feb. 12, all at 7 p.m. in the Modesto High library, 18 H St. For more information, call IB coordinator Leilani Johnson at (209) 569-2705.
The Performing Arts Academy is a school within a school, where students take core classes using the arts as a foundation. Recognized by the state as a California Partnership Academy, courses cover all aspects of the performing arts, including scenery, costuming, makeup, sound, lighting, business, theater management, dance, drama, gymnastics, vocal performance and photography. Current freshmen from all schools may email coordinator Lisa McHale for an application at email@example.com.
AVID , Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness program to increase schoolwide learning and performance. An information night will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 23 in the Modesto High library, 18 H St. For more information, call AVID coordinator Amy Chavkin at (209) 576-4401.
Parent Information Night will describe the programs, application process and timeline for incoming freshmen to join the school’s unique programs in cinema and graphic arts, pre-veterinary science and forensics/biotechnology. It begins at 6 p.m. Jan. 30 at the campus cafeteria, 3201 Sylvan Ave. For more information, call Associate Principal Derek Pendley at (209) 550-3402.
Parent Information Night will provide information on the school’s small learning communities and unique programs available. It begins at 6 p.m. Feb. 3 in the multipurpose room on campus, 3701 Pirrone Road. For more information, call Associate Principal Brad Goudeau at (209) 550-3422.
Parent Information Nights will provide information on the programs available at Johansen, including the Digital Arts & Technology Advancement Pathway and the Industrial Technology Engineering Academy. The nights will be at 5 p.m. Feb. 4 at Hanshaw Middle School, 1725 Las Vegas St.; 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at La Loma Junior High, 1800 Encina Ave.; and 7 p.m. Feb. 18 at Glick Middle School, 400 Frazine Road, Empire. Parent Information Night will have information on Digital Davis, where students will have individual computers; Middle College, where students can get dual credit at Modesto Junior College and high school; the Health Careers Academy; the Public Safety Academy; and the Agricultural Pathway, where core courses use ag subjects as a foundation.
