Turlock Junior High School physical education teacher Ardith Feucht took a bow after being named Educator of the Year for the California League of Middle Schools, Region 6.
Feucht was named Monday night from a field of six nominees from middle schools in the region. She will represent the region at the California League of Schools’ annual conference in February in Sacramento, competing with 10 other regional winners for the state 2014 Middle Level Educator of the Year title.
Feucht has taught PE in the Turlock Unified School District for 37 years. At the junior high, she teaches PE and coaches volleyball and track. Feucht sponsors an annual junior high countywide track meet, recruiting volunteers for much of the work.
Her nomination letter focused on her passion for providing healthy exercise options for all students, connections to special needs students and attention to sportsmanship.
Never miss a local story.
“Ardie builds relationships with all of her students. The student who gives 100 percent but struggles to succeed gets just as much recognition as the star athlete,” the letter says.
Other nominees from the region were: Charlene Stone from Alice Stroud School, Kathy Chong from Bernard Hughes Elementary School and Lisa Lema from Norman Glick Middle School, all in the Empire Union School District; Donald Voortman from Ripona School in the Ripon Unified School District; and Janet Gomes from Woodward School in the Manteca Unified School District.
