A 70-year-old Copperopolis man was arrested Saturday morning after his pickup crashed into 11 vehicles parked at an auto dealership in Sonora.

Richard Schwanz was arrested on suspicion of being driving under the influence of a controlled substance, the California Highway Patrol reported. He was not injured in the crash.

The crash occurred about 11:45 a.m. at the Motherlode Motors dealership on Mono Way, just south of Highway 108.

Schwanz was driving a 1997 Dodge Ram Pickup east on Mono when the pickup drifted to the south side of the road. The pickup then hit a metal pole and the parked vehicles at the dealership, the CHP said.

The pickup’s front end then struck a large sign before coming to a stop in the dealership parking lot.
