Modesto police arrested a man Sunday evening suspected of robbing a woman of an iPad case she’d just purchased from a T-Mobile store.
The suspect, 18-year-old Dustin Higgins, reportedly had been walking around inside the store in the Wal-Mart shopping center on McHenry Avenue north of East Union Avenue and followed the victim into the parking lot after she’d purchased an iPad case and Bluetooth keyboard, said Modesto police spokeswoman Heather Graves.
When the woman got to her car, Higgins allegedly grabbed her arm and tried to rip the shopping bag out of her hand. There was a brief struggle before he was successful in taking the bag, which had only the iPad case inside, Graves said.
Officers found Higgins, who matched the description of the suspect, less than a mile away, walking in the area of Sylvan Meadows and Rexford drives.
He was arrested on suspicion of robbery.
