A Turlock man wanted in Stanislaus County was arrested near Delhi on Thursday afternoon after he led officers on a high-speed chase on Highway 99 in Merced County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Louie David Lara Jr., 44, was driving a white Mazda when a CHP officer tried to pull him over for allegedly driving at high speeds and making an unsafe lane change, according to the CHP.
As Lara exited the Applegate Road offramp in Atwater, he tried to evade the officer and headed west on Sycamore Avenue. Sycamore is a dead-end street, and Lara made a U-turn, striking the back of the officer’s vehicle, the CHP reported.
Lara continued on, making his way back to highway, and headed north. Another officer entered the chase, and Lara began passing vehicles, who were stuck in traffic near Hammatt Avenue, on the right side.
Lara eventually got off the highway at Collier Road south of Delhi, turned north on Canal Drive before losing control of the Mazda and spinning out near South Avenue.
Lara was taken into custody for trying to evade officers and driving under the influence, the CHP reported.
He also was wanted in Stanislaus County two outstanding misdemeanor warrants and a felony warrant.
