A judge on Monday scheduled a trial to start March 17 for a man charged with murder in the death of his sister’s husband at an east Modesto apartment complex.

Francisco Hernandez Gonzales, 52, of Modesto is accused of stabbing 55-year-old Trinidad Cordero.

The stabbing occurred Jan. 12, 2013, at the Redwood Apartments in the 2500 block of Yosemite Boulevard. Authorities said Gonzales stabbed Cordero and then left the home.

Cordero was found with multiple wounds and was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he died. Gonzales was arrested at a Turlock homeless shelter 11 days after the stabbing.

The defendant remains in custody at the Stanislaus County Jail as he awaits trial. Gonzales is scheduled to return to court Jan. 21 for a pretrial hearing.
