A Modesto man is in stable condition after being shot several times in downtown Modesto on Thursday night.
The 31-year-old victim told police he was confronted by a group of black men near the corner of Second and I streets, according to Lt. Brian Findlen.
The conversation between the victim and the suspects centered around money; detectives are trying to determine specifics, Findlen said.
The victim got into his car and drove to the other side of the block, where one of the men in the group shot him several times in the face and upper body.
The victim went to a home near Third and H streets and asked the resident to call 911.
The shooting suspect is described as black, about 6 feet tall and 190 pounds, with a thin build and short hair.
Findlen said what motivated the shooting remains under investigation, adding, “There are some suspicious elements surrounding the shooting that we will be looking into further.”
