Authorities took one man into custody and were looking for second man in the robbery of a Wells Fargo Bank at gunpoint inside a Save Mart grocery store Thursday afternoon.
The armed bank robbery occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. inside the Save Mart store at Ward and Sperry avenues, said Patterson Police Chief Tori Hughes.
She said two armed men arrived in a stolen vehicle and walked into the store. They approached a bank teller and demanded cash before leaving the store. The robbers left the stolen vehicle behind and escaped into a nearby neighborhood.
No shots were fired inside the store, and no injuries were reported. Patterson police created a perimeter around the area and started a search of the surrounding neighborhood.
Never miss a local story.
In the 1000 block of Marsh Wren Drive, a few blocks northwest of the grocery store, authorities found a suspect, Hughes said. Authorities did not release the arrested man’s name because Hughes said they still were conducting the investigation and looking for the second man.
In the 1000 block of Pipit Drive, authorities found weapons and what is believed to be an undisclosed amount of cash stolen from the bank. Hughes said they found the guns and the cash, along with clothing, inside bags left near a home. She said they don’t believe the home or its residents were connected with the robbers.
Police continued to search the neighborhood but did not find the second man. Hughes said they could not release a description of the men because they were getting conflicting reports from witnesses.
