Modesto man arrested after assault at Father’s Day barbecue

A family fight at a Father’s Day barbecue in south Modesto resulted in the arrest of a 23-year-old man on suspicion of mayhem.

A family fight at a Father’s Day barbecue in south Modesto resulted in the arrest of a 23-year-old man on suspicion of mayhem.

Two family members started fighting during the barbecue at a home in the 500 block of Amador Avenue at about 6 p.m., said deputy Royjindar Singh. He didn’t know how the family members were related or why they started fighting.

The suspect, Miguel Murillo, allegedly pushed the victim to the ground and used beer bottles to hit him in the face. Murillo then is suspected of biting victim’s lower lip, causing it to tear.

Murillo left the scene but was located by deputies later in the day at his home on El Terino Avenue near Downey High School.

Murillo was arrested on suspicion of mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon and violating his parole.

The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital, Singh said.
