The death of a man whose decomposing body was found near a Highway 99 offramp earlier this month has been ruled a homicide, Modesto police said Tuesday.
Sgt. Ivan Valencia said the man likely had been dead at least two weeks when his body was discovered May 17 in an open field on the bank northwest of the Tuolumne Boulevard exit from Highway 99 in west Modesto.
His body was so badly decomposed police have not been able to identify him, Valancia said. He would not say how the man died.
Detectives are asking for the public’s help identifying the victim. He is described as a Latino or non-Latino white male, possibly in his 20s. He was 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-6 in height and weighed about 140 to 150 pounds. He was wearing a gray T-shirt, black pants and a pair of Circa-brand black high-top skate shoes.
