A 39-year-old woman suffered minor injuries early Friday after she jumped off a motorcycle during a 4-mile police chase east of Sonora.
Rachel Knight, of Sonora, was the passenger on the motorcycle before she jumped off, according to the California Highway Patrol. She was taken by ambulance to Sonora Regional Medical Center. The motorcycle driver was not apprehended.
The chase began about 12:45 a.m. on Via Este Road, just south of Mono Way.
The CHP spotted a white motorcycle with a passenger, who was later determined to be Knight, heading south on the road at a high rate of speed.
The officers tried to pull over the driver and passenger, but the motorcycle failed to stop. The police pursuit ensued and went on for 4.4 miles with the motorcycle speeding, crossing double yellow lines and failing to stop at stop signs.
As the motorcycle turned left from Woodham Carne Road onto Yosemite Road, Knight jumped from the back of the motorcycle, the CHP said. The officers stopped their chase to provide aid to the passenger, who was wearing a helmet. The motorcyclist did not stop and had not been found as of Friday morning.
