A woman who died at a rest stop near Turlock last week has been identified, and Stanislaus County Sheriff's detectives are investigating the case.
Emergency responders were called to the rest stop just south of Turlock on Wednesday evening. When they arrived, they called law enforcement.
The woman, identified as Christina Cardoza, 41, had suffered an injury earlier the same day near Campbell Boulevard and Winton Parkway in Livingston, sheriff’s Sgt. Keith Rakoncza said Monday.
“It is unknown at this time if this injury is related to the cause of death," Rakoncza said via email. "The cause of death is pending the autopsy and toxicology report, which takes four to six weeks."
Stanislaus County authorities originally sent the case back to Livingston. But police in Livingston said there was no evidence the incident occurred in their jurisdiction, so they declined it and Stanislaus County will investigate it.
The sheriff's office is asking anyone with information on the case to contact Detective David Hickman at (209) 525-7042.
