A Modesto man was arrested on suspicion of robbery Sunday after he, and police said he another man conspired to assault and rob his friend’s dad at his west Modesto home.
The man went to the victim’s home in the 600 block of Sutter Avenue on Friday night, knocked on the door and said he was a friend of the victim’s son, according to Modesto police spokeswoman Heather Graves.
The victim recognized the man as his son’s friend so he obliged when the man said he needed to look for property he had stored in the victim’s garage.
The victim became concerned, however, when the man started talking about needing money so he tried to go back inside his house, Graves said. Before he could get inside a second man went into the garage and hit the victim in the head with an unknown object.
The two men took the victim’s wallet and the keys to his truck, Graves said.
Police had not identified the driver but said the victim’s son’s friend was 50-year-old Steven Keith Roberson. Officers arrested Roberson at his home Sunday morning.
