A woman helped police officers find a man suspected of stealing items from her car during a bridal show Sunday morning at Modesto Centre Plaza.

The theft occurred about 10:40 a.m. just outside the plaza near 10th Street, between K and L streets in downtown Modesto.

The woman was unloading items from her car and had left the door unlocked, Modesto police said. She returned to her car and spotted someone taking gift cards and spare change.

The suspect ran away, and she called police. Officers found the suspect near 10th and M streets. Police said the suspect, Jason Oti, was on parole for a burglary conviction. Oti was arrested on suspicion of petty theft and possession of stolen property.

He was being held Sunday afternoon at the Stanislaus County Jail.
