California Highway Patrol investigators are looking for a man with a cut on his lip and a “Maria” tattoo on his chest after he allegedly caused a head-on collision and then ran off.
According to authorities, Julio Aguilar, 27, of Modesto was driving a 2006 Ford Mustang west on Hatch Road when the suspect, driving a 1987 Chrysler Fifth Avenue, pulled out in front of him at Boulder Avenue.
The accident was reported just before 7 p.m. Friday in the Shackelford neighborhood south of Modesto.
The cars collided head-on; Aguilar suffered major injuries and was taken to Doctors Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Chrysler ran away, and was last seen on Main Street, where someone in a white BMW or Lexus may have picked him up, the CHP said.
Investigators found information in the car that leads them to think the suspect’s name is Jose Garcia. He was described as in his mid-20s, 5-foot-8, wearing jeans and no shirt. He had a cut on his lip and the tattoo visible on his chest.
Investigators ask anyone with information on the man’s identity to call the CHP at (209) 545-7440.
