A Modesto gas station sustained major damage early Sunday morning when two thieves tried to take the ATM machine inside.
Modesto police officers were dispatched to the Chevron gas station in the 800 block of Kansas Avenue at about 3:30 a.m. for a report of a commercial burglary, said Lt. Scott Blom.
The suspects, described only as white men, had used tools to pry open the doors to get inside the station and had used the same tools to remove the ATM machine from the wall but were not successful in taking it.
They were gone by the time officers arrived. Blom said this is the second attempted theft of an ATM machine in the past two weeks. The other occurred at Chase Bank in the 3600 block of Pelandale Avenue.
