Ceres officer charged with assault

A Ceres police officer faces a misdemeanor assault charge stemming from an incident in April, Ceres Police Chief Art de Werk announced Tuesday. Christopher Melton, a nine-year veteran of the force, is accused of using excessive force on a suspect during an April 13, 2013 incident on the 1600 block of Evans Road. Another Ceres officer reported the alleged misconduct by Melton.
