Police in Novato arrested a 24-year-old dance instructor and ballroom competitor from Modesto on suspicion of engaging in a sexual activity with a teenage girl at a dance event, a newspaper reported.
According to the Marin Independent Journal, Richard Alan Selby III was booked at the Marin County Jail. The newspaper said the crime is alleged to have occurred April 25 at a dance studio; police started investigating after getting a report May 10.
Selby sent a lewd transmission to the girl before the sex act, Novato police Detective Sgt. Michael Howard told the Journal. He said the transmission did not include photographs, but he would not elaborate. Selby was booked at the jail after turning himself in May 29.
He was no longer listed in custody on the jail's website Monday, but a court case against him was listed on the Marin County Superior Court website.

According to court officials, Selby has been charged with a lewd and lascivious act and sending a lewd transmission to a minor.
Selby, a graduate of Davis High School, was featured in a Bee article about ballroom dancing in 2007.
"Ballroom dancing has become more popular, and it's a great way to meet girls," he said then.
