An 87-year-old man from Patterson died Monday when the car he was riding in overturned on Interstate 5.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the man, whose name was not released, was a passenger in a 2004 Ford driven by Pacita Ancheta, 69, of Patterson.
Ancheta was driving south on I-5 near Del Puerto Creek at about 2:30 p.m. when the car’s left front tire went flat, pulling the vehicle to the left, the CHP said. Ancheta turned the car back to the right, losing control of the vehicle.
The Ford veered to the right, hitting a curb, then turned back to the left where it began to overturn. The Ford crossed both southbound lanes and came to rest on its roof in the center divide.
Ancheta and the passenger were taken to Doctors Medical Center, where the man died. Ancheta suffered major injuries, the CHP said.
