An Oakland man was arrested in Ripon early Thursday morning after he was allegedly found with a loaded .22-caliber Ruger pistol, authorities said.

Ripon police were called to the 200 block of South Walnut Avenue on a report of a disturbance involving people inside a Chevy Impala, according to Sgt. Steve Merchant of the Ripon Police Department.

When they arrived, Merchant said officers found two people inside the vehicle and a strong marijuana odor coming from inside.

A 21-year-old woman inside the vehicle turned the pot over to officers. Upon further investigation, they found a man, Darren Duane Coln, 20, with a gun in a backpack that also contained ammunition, Merchant said.

It was later discovered that Coln was a felon, Merchant said.

He was booked into San Joaquin County Jail on charges of being a felon in possession of a loaded weapon among other charges, Merchant said.

The woman was cited for an infraction involving the marijuana.
