Two shootings within a day leave one injured in Modesto

Modesto police responded to two shooting reports at the same residence within a day, authorities said. One person suffered a minor wound in the second incident, which was reported Tuesday at 11:22 p.m. in the 700 block of Empire Avenue.

Modesto police responded to two shooting reports involving the same residence within a day, authorities said Wednesday.

One person suffered a minor wound in the second incident, which was reported Tuesday at 11:22 p.m. in the 700 block of Empire Avenue.

According to Sgt. Rick Applegate, a 45-year-old woman was inside her home when she heard gunshots and was hit in the right leg. She refused medical treatment.

"This appears to be retaliation from the event last night at the same location," Applegate said in an email.

Monday, police received a report that four men in a vehicle shot at another man in his vehicle at Empire and Monterey avenues.

Investigators found the suspect vehicle in the driveway of the house where Tuesday's shooting took place, Applegate said. Investigation into the case is continuing, and no suspect information or description was available.
