A suitcase left at the Ripon Community Center prompted a bomb squad response Monday afternoon.

A maintenance worker located the suitcase about 1:45 p.m. next to the youth baseball field at the Community Center,334 W. Fourth St., said Sgt. Steve Merchant.

The city worker saw a suspicious item inside the suitcase, so he contacted police. The area was secured, the Manteca Police Department bomb squad was contacted and the Ripon Fire Department was advised.

Bomb squad technicians located and removed the suspicious item, which turned out not to be an explosive.
