A preliminary hearing will resume Friday for a Modesto woman accused of murder in the death of toddler she was baby-sitting.
Maria Elena Torres has told investigators the child fell down the stairs outside her second-floor home at El Casa Verde apartment complex on Feb. 7, 2012.
Authorities say the girl, Alexandra Medina-Cisneros, died at the hands of Torres.
During a brief hearing Wednesday morning, Deputy Public Defender Greg Spiering said there will be further testimony in the preliminary hearing Friday.
It's unclear whether a pathologist will be available to testify on the cause of death on behalf of the defense.
At the end of the preliminary hearing, Stanislaus County Superior Court Judge Scott Steffen will determine whether there is enough evidence for Torres to stand trial.
Torres remains in custody at the Stanislaus County Jail.
