A Modesto man who has been wanted for almost a year was arrested Monday by Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies on suspicion of attempted murder.

A warrant for Jaime Cordero's arrest was issued by Modesto police in June on suspicion of shooting his girlfriend's uncle after a family dispute.

The shooting occurred in south Modesto in the 1800 block of San Ramon Court. Modesto police said Cordero was fighting with his girlfriend, and her relatives went to the home to intervene.

Cordero shot his girlfriend's uncle several times before fleeing, police said.

Sheriff's deputies spotted Cordero on Monday afternoon near Glenn Avenue and Crows Landing Road and arrested him on the warrant.

In addition to a charge of attempted murder, Cordero was charged with two counts of intimidating a witness, one of them being the shooting victim.
