People who carjacked a vehicle in a Modesto on Wednesday night apparently drove to San Francisco, where they crashed it early Thursday.
Modesto police said two people carjacked two people in a silver 2011 Nissan Versa near James Marshall Elementary School. The incident happened about 9:45 p.m. Authorities said witnesses last saw the car heading east on South Avenue.
The San Jose Mercury News reported that California Highway Patrol officers chased the car into San Francisco before losing sight of it.
At 3:10 a.m., the car was found crashed near Van Ness Avenue and Union Street, the newspaper said. A search for the carjackers yielded nothing.
Modesto police said investigators confirmed that the vehicle in the case was recovered, but no carjackers had been found. No description of the thieves was available.
