Newman police make arrests in alleged gang-related shooting

Arrests were made in Newman on Friday night after a shooting among gang members, authorities said.
According to the Newman Police Department, five people alleged to be involved in a gang approached a home in the area of Merced and R streets.
Police said one or more occupants emerged from the home and fired shots, striking a person. The group that went to the home fled before they were detained by police.
Upon investigation, police discovered the shooting victim had fled to Turlock. They did not have any more information on the victim.
Two members of the group that was detained were arrested — one on suspicion of brandishing a weapon and criminal threats and one on suspicion of resisting and-or obstructing arrest, police said.
Two occupants in the house were arrested — one on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a controlled substance and the other for carrying a loaded and concealed firearm, police said.
Police had no other details.
