A Modesto man was in stable condition at a hospital Monday after being shot in the face during a robbery attempt Sunday night.
According to Modesto police Lt. Jolene Gonzales, the shooting happened in the 2300 block of Eicher Avenue. The neighborhood is west of Prescott Road and north of Plaza Parkway.
Gonzales said two men knocked on the man's door just before midnight and "demanded entry." The resident stayed behind a locked security screen door and refused to let them in. One of the men shot at the resident.
Gonzales said the resident had 25 pounds of marijuana in his home, which might be the motive for the robbery. The robbers were described as two black men who appeared to be in their 30s, wearing dark, hooded sweat shirts.
