Police were investigating a shooting after a driver showed up at a Modesto hospital Tuesday with at least one gunshot wound and bullet holes in his vehicle.
Callers initially reported hearing shots fired from a dark-colored or black sport utility vehicle at 1:48 p.m. near the 200 block of Oak Street. Later, officers determined that the shooting had occurred in the 200 block of Maple Street.
Modesto police Sgt. Ivan Valencia said one person had been detained; investigators are trying to determine his involvement.
Sgt. Steve Hinkley said it appears that the vehicle and the driver were the targets, and that the SUV driver arrived at the hospital alone. Hinkley said he was being treated for injuries that aren't life-threatening.
Officers sealed off the area around the SUV at the hospital, declaring it a crime scene. It had been hit by several shots.
