Police in Ripon will have a new four-legged drug detector, thanks to funds donated by residents.

Officer Mike Perry and his new K-9 partner named Kilo have spent weeks training in a course that includes 160 hours of hands-on work and testing.

When Perry and Kilo graduate, they will be certified through the Commission on California Peace Officer Standards and Training and the Western States Police Canine Association.

Kilo was purchased with donated funds from local residents, Sgt. Steve Merchant said in a news release.
