A 53-year-old Modesto man found seriously hurt on the side of a south Modesto road has died from his injuries, authorities said.
William Humphries was found in the 600 block of South Seventh Street the morning of Jan. 16.
The call initially was reported as a hit-and-run accident, then turned over to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department when investigators could not determine how Humphries had been hurt.
He died Monday, and after an autopsy, it was determined he was hit by a car, so the case likely will go back to the California Highway Patrol for further investigation, said sheriff's Sgt. Anthony Bejaran.
