Modesto man ID'd as shooting victim

A 35-year-old Modesto man was identified as the shooting victim found dead in a car in west Modesto on Sunday night.

A 35-year-old Modesto man was identified as the shooting victim found dead in a car in west Modesto on Sunday night.

Jesse Bejaran died from a gunshot wound, Stanislaus County sheriff's deputy Royjindar Singh confirmed Wednesday. Detectives also officially identified Louis Alexander Amaya, also known as "Negro," as the suspect, Singh said.

Bejaran's body was found about 11 p.m. inside a car parked on the 700 block of Anthony Avenue near Latimer Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Amaya on Monday was named a person of interest. He is a parolee and described as a 5-foot-9-inch Latino male, 220 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. His last address was in Crows Landing.

He also is wanted for an unrelated felony drug possession warrant. Amaya should be considered armed and dangerous, authorities said.

Detectives would like to speak with a heavy-set Latina with light complexion and blond hair who might have witnessed the shooting.

"Amaya and Bejaran are gang members, however, the motive for the shooting is unclear at this point," according to Detective Francisco Soria.

Further details are not being released while detectives are investigating the case.
