Authorities destroyed a 6-inch pipe bomb Thursday morning in front of Sherwood Elementary School on East Rumble Road in Modesto, Modesto Police Sgt. Craig Gundlach said.
School was not in session when the bomb was discovered, and no injuries were reported. This was the third time in two weeks that Modesto police and the Stanislaus County sheriff's Bomb Squad responded to a report of a pipe bomb.
The pipe bomb found in front of Sherwood School, however, had explosive materials inside, Gundlach said.
A few school staff members were on campus when the bomb was found. Gundlach said staff members were not evacuated, but were kept a safe distance from the device as the Bomb Squad used an explosive to destroy the device about 90 minutes after it was found.
