The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office on Friday released the names of the two Ceres officers who shot a suspected drunk driver who led them on a pursuit that ended in south Modesto early Sunday morning.
Sgt. Darren Venn, a 17-year veteran, and Officer Ross Bays, a 15 year veteran, shot 27-year-old Nicholas Adam Pimentel when the pursuit ended at Imperial Avenue and Ustick Road just after 1 a.m.
The pursuit began at 1:08 a.m. in an unincorporated area. The sheriff's office would not disclosed where the pursuit began or what initiated it.
Two minutes later, at least one of the officers radioed that they had been involved in a shooting. The Sheriff's office will not say how the pursuit ended and what Pimentel did at that point, if he had a weapon or threatened the officers in any way.

Nearby residents said the pickup crashed with parked vehicles in front of homes. One neighbor said it appeared that the police patrol cars struck the pickup in a maneuver forcing the pickup off the road.
