A Modesto man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of driving to an acquaintance's home early in the morning and torching his two vehicles, causing $50,000 in damage.
The fire occurred Oct. 16 just before 1 a.m. in the 2100 block of Canadian Circle, southwest of Pelandale Avenue and Prescott Road.
The victim’s 2015 Dodge Charger and 2015 Chevrolet pickup were heavily damaged, said Lt. Dave Hutchinson, supervisor of the Fire Investigation Unit.
The unit's investigators identified the suspect as Edgar Garcia-Juarez. Hutchinson would not say how they made that identification.
Hutchinson said the victim knows the suspect. He would not say how the two know each other or what motivated the arson.
On Wednesday, FIU investigators, with assistance from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol, served a search warrant at Garcia-Juarez’s home in the 2100 block of Liselle Lane in south Modesto.
Evidence was collected at the scene and Garcia-Juarez was arrested on suspicion of arson of a vehicle. He also had a warrant for vandalism in an unrelated incident.
