The Modesto Police Department closed its main office for the second time in two days after receiving envelopes with “anti-law enforcement writing” and containing an unknown powder in the mail.
The first envelope came Wednesday and contained a powder substance, according to police. The Modesto Fire Department’s hazardous materials team conducted a preliminary test on the substance and determined it was safe. On Thursday, another envelope came that had the same handwriting as the previous envelope. Both envelopes had “anti-law enforcement writing” on them, according to police.
The Modesto Police department closed the station again on Thursday and Hazmat returned. Preliminary tests again determined the contents were safe but the powder from both envelopes was sent to a lab for additional testing for biological agents.
