A 52-year-old Ripon woman has admitted to stealing nearly $148,000 from an elderly and disabled Stockton man, the San Joaquin County District Attorney announced.
Sandra Vallerga Marchman pleaded guilty to felony grand theft on Wednesday.
She stole the money from 2010 to 2014 after helping the man in a house-flipping enterprise, the DA said in a news release.
The victim fell seriously ill and was hospitalized repeatedly, and during that time Marchman was an authorized signer on his checking and credit card accounts, the DA said.
When the victim eventually went into remission from his illness in 2015, he discovered his money gone from his checking account and the credit card maxed out and closed.
Marchman spent the money and used the credit card for personal expenses, travel and entertainment, the DA said.
Marchman will be sentenced later this year.
She could face up to five years in state prison. She also will be ordered to repay the victim more than $153,000.
